    backup solution?

It's time to start backing up my data regularly, since I'll need to be storing some more sensitive data from now on and would like to be on the safe side with things.
Since I've seen my mate going nuts while loosing his data ;) due to a hard disk crash, I'm not too keen on having the same thing happen to me.
So, what's available out there, where good backup solutions are concerned? Yes, I could google it but I'd like to get some real suggestions here, not anybody's product sales pitch or whatever. So, if you're running some sort of backup software and are reasonably happy with its perfomance and all, let me know."

    backup solution?

Depends on your needs. If you're talking about you personally at home (or very small business or whatever) then you can do a lot worse than buy one of those plug-in firewire or USB hard disks and backup to that using the Windows backup tool (or some of these plug-in disks come with their own backup software).

Also heard good things about the iomega rev drive, though I haven't tested it myself:

Pretty simple and pretty damn quick, just what you want for one or two people. At the "home" end of the market, the "right" device is more important than the software because the software tends to come bundled with the device and is more or less guaranteed to work.

If you're talking about a business then we'll have to have a re-think, and talk a lot more about the exact requirements. At work we use Symantec / Veritas netbackup with a robotic tape library thing which is about as complex as doing algebra in a language you can't speak or write, and is priced somewhere in the "If sir has to ask then sir can't afford it" bracket...

    backup solution?

I'm not a fan of the little backup tool that comes with Windows, so I've been working with Norton Ghost for a while now. I had researched it on the net a bit before I got it and it seems to be the consensus that it's a pretty good backup tool.
I have V8 of Ghost on my system but if you were to look into getting ghost for yourself, you should look for the most up-to-date version, which is V10.
I never bother to upgrade to V9 but am actually a bit tempted to get V10 now, mainly because of a new feature that supposedly lets you assign your backup tasks to specific system events, which is something I'd like to play around with a bit.
