one question though, would you not turn off 'Apple Talk' ?
MAC's can now use TCP/IP and AppleTalk is chatty and produces a lot of traffic....

Hi Rose, Yes Appletalk should be off, but on a modern Mac running the last couple of versions of OS X this is true by default. There might be legacy reasons for turning it on - e.g. some old tool that the Macs are running between themselves.
